Travelling to Saskatchewan

Monday, July 21, 2008
Mike made delicious pancakes as all the families were preparing to leave. Our kids wanted to stay and go to the camp that the cousins were participating in. Maybe we'll come out next year and stay for awhile?

We stopped at the Lethbridge Walmart and got some supplies. We ate lunch in the parking lot while Owen tuned up some things around the RV.
We hit a bit of trouble in Grassy Lake, Alberta. Our engine just seemed to stall...it was a pretty hot day. Luckily it happened just beside Pahl's Auto Service. He helped us out, but didn't know for sure what was wrong, he thought it might just be the heat making the engine act up. We drove on...we had the same thing happen again just as we were heading out of Medicine Hat, this time we were just beside an RV dealership. He sent us to Smart Lube to see if it was a filter thing. In the end we just had to stop a few times to let the engine cool (20 min) and then we were fine for about an hour. Once the day started to cool we were fine and we haven't had a problem since. It was pretty hot. Olivia had a little bit of heat stroke and threw up but after that she felt fine. We made it into Saskatchewan!! There is a lot of land...land...land...as far as the eye can see.

We passed through an area near Chaplin that looked like it had snowed. We got out to investigate and discovered it was a white powder substance. We later found out it was salt and that Saskatchewan has a few salt water lakes.

We pulled into Moosejaw around 10:00 and parked beside "Mac" the moose at the Tourist Information Center. Today we listened to a book on CD called Fablehave it was good and kept most of the kids engaged while we were driving. Tomorrow we'll explore Saskatchewan.

Neat picture of the salt! So did you pick up a load of salt for next winter?

Those books on CD really are very engaging - and you don't have to wear out your voice. The person who does it - does a pretty good job of keeping all the characters voices distinct.

Glad you were able to find time to add to your blog!

Keep well and travel safely,
Tim
