Drumheller - The land of the Dinosaurs

Friday, July 18, 2008
So we woke up to trucks driving by on one side but had a beautiful Canola field of yellow flowers on the other side. I decided to try driving the RV, it's not bad but I can't look out the windows or I start to swerve, it's pretty touchy. We were about an hour outside of Drumheller, on our way there we saw a sign for Carbon and thought, "This sounds like a great place, let's go check it out."

After our 20 minute detour we stopped and climbed the Largest Dinosaur, went to the Tyrell Museum, walked on the Rosedale Suspension Bridge and took the shortest train ride ever at the Atlas mine.

At the Atlas mine we climbed up the tipple and learned a lot about coal. It was categorized into 5 different sizes: slack, stocker, egg, nut and lump. We got some souvenirs and headed for Southern Alberta. We watched some lightning storms in front of us and got a bit of rain. It didn't last long. We found a dumping site in Cardston but then got lost on the way to Leavitt, we quickly turned around and got to Kate's at 10:30. Owen drove around her property looking for a level spot and we settled in for the night. The kids are excited to play with cousins.

We would have been spending a lot of time at that gas station. Drinking a lot of slurpees. Mike

Actually Mike that Carbon Corner Gas station (on Hwy 9) is closed, so no slurpees! The village of Carbon is about 10 minutes north of it in the Kneehill Creek valley (a really nice place) where Shannon (Clark) and Shane Lawrence live, and there are 2 really nice campgrounds.
